This is the American abbreviation for "crossing" – in the sense of junctions/networks. The term crossing can also be applied to freight exchanges, since supply and demand meet here. The virtual marketplace of a freight exchange has the function of a communications platform, where participants can procure for themselves a network of (potential) business partners.
